What Kind of Church is First Unitarian?
We Are Loving
At First U, we show up. Whether we’re carrying the Standing on the Side of Love banner at a March Against Hate, sparkling (literally!) at the Pride Parade, showing up at a bedside, studying and sharing together in a small group, or gathering in Sunday worship, we have a big heart and warm sense of community. But our love reaches beyond the doors of the church.
We Are Giving
We reach out in many ways: local non profits received $8,509 from our collection basket last year; and no one was turned away from our Food Pantry, which gave out over 4,000 bags of groceries. We shelter homeless families through Family Promise; volunteers provide ESL classes and after school tutoring; and 16 children received scholarships to our volunteer-led UU Kids Camp this year, where we grow the next generation of leaders. Just to name a few!
We Are Growing
We’re learning to be a bigger congregation. We’ve added staff time: with 50% more hours, our Membership Director has developed 19 new groups and gatherings with a total attendance of about 120 people! We invest in leadership and kids by supporting our Director of Religious Education in becoming professionally credentialed. The music program is growing, bringing people together not only in worship, but in hospital rooms and children’s programs. To meet these needs and those of a bustling campus, our operating budget is growing, too, by 7.2% in 2017.
First Unitarian is loving, giving, and growing, and we plan to be here for generations to come. Will you make a financial pledge for the coming year? Your pledge allows us to plan the budget that supports First U’s mission and presence.
