Attending services for the first time?

yellow-mug-visitorsIf you have questions, please stop by the Welcome Desk in the Sanctuary Foyer. Two identical worship services are held each Sunday at 9:30 am and 11:00 am in the Sanctuary. Please join us in the Social Hall for a social hour following the service.

Finding Us – We are located at 3701 Carlisle Blvd NE, at the corner of Carlisle and Comanche. You can reach us at (505) 881-1804, Sunday-Thursday, 9:00 am-4:00 pm.

Parking –Our campus has two parking areas, one off Comanche on the north edge of the campus (which extends into the business park to the west) and the other off Carlisle on the south side. Our handicap-accessible parking is in the lot off Comanche. The south lot is larger and a short walk to the Sanctuary and other buildings.

Accessibility and Special Needs – We are committed to making our facilities and programs fully accessible for all.

  • There are handicap accessible restrooms in the Sanctuary building and off of the Memorial Hall.
  • Our 9:30 am service is translated to ASL on the last Sunday of the month.
  • Hearing assistance devices and large print materials are available at the Welcome Table for use in our services.
  • There are cut-outs for wheelchairs in the Sanctuary seating area.
  • All of our buildings are accessible via ramps.
  • The church is located on the ABQ Ride Bus System. The #5  bus comes north from downtown. Click here for Sunday bus schedules.

What to Expect – After you enter the Sanctuary Foyer, you will be greeted by an Usher. Please stop at the Welcome Table and receive a visitor’s nametag. A volunteer will be able to direct you and answer your questions.

As you enter the Sanctuary you will receive an Order of Service that includes announcements and a calendar for the upcoming week. Our service generally consists of music, readings, meditation, an offering, and a sermon. One of our two ministers is usually in the pulpit, but on occasional Sundays we have a guest speaker or a lay-led service. On the first Sunday of the month, our church band provides contemporary and popular music and on other weeks we enjoy a wide variety of musical styles.

After the service, you are welcome to visit the Connections Table in the Foyer, where staff are available to tell you about Church activities and where you can pick up brochures that explain Unitarian Universalism and the various social programs at First Unitarian. You can also sign up to receive The Messenger, our monthly newsletter, for three months.

Attending with with Kids?  We offer a religious education program of care, activities, and classes fro children from infancy through 5th grade at 9:30, and infancy through high school at 11:00. It’s our goal that your children are safe, comfortable, enjoy themselves, and learn something each week. If you’d like to keep your children with you in the Sanctuary, children’s tables are located in the back corner of the Sanctuary (parents are asked to sit in that section). Or, if you’d prefer, our Family Room is located off of the Sanctuary lobby and provides televised coverage of the service.

What to Wear – Our dress style is varied, but in general more casual than formal, with an emphasis on comfort. Children especially should be comfortable and able to participate in art projects or enjoy the playground.

Social Hour
– You are encouraged to join us for coffee and other beverages and lively conversation in the Social Hall. The Social Hall is also our Art Gallery and has a rotation of exhibits by local artists throughout the year. We are looking forward to meeting you!
