First Unitarian seeks an experienced and strategic-minded Interim Director of Finance and Operations to provide management, planning and leadership for the congregation’s financial systems, daily operations, and campus facilities. This position requires experience and training specific to non-profit leadership. The Interim DFO will work closely with the ministers, and supervise employees and volunteers to support the church’s mission and programs. This is a full-time, nine-month interim position as the church considers the best staff design to serve its mission and foster a positive work environment. If mutually agreeable, it may be possible for the Interim DFO to continue as DFO after the interim period.
First Unitarian has approximately 840 members and is a community of about 1500 people, with an annual budget of just over $1 million. The congregation owns a four-acre campus composed of several buildings, including a sanctuary constructed in 2012. The congregation has grown and is working hard to keep up with the new levels of management and leadership required for a church our size. Our capable staff team values collaboration and comradery. Due to COVID-19, we are currently a 99% virtual church, with science-based protocols in place to protect the limited number of staff and members on campus. Some on-site work is necessary.
The ministers seek an Interim DFO who is a strong communicator with experience and training in financial management and operations. The person holding this position must be flexible, willing to learn and ready to seek help and support from other staff and lay leadership as needed.
The Interim DFO will interact with a wide range of people, and so must be both professional and personable, committed to inspiring and nurturing a culture of exceptional member and community service. Commitment to diversity and anti-racism is a must. Work typically includes some Sunday mornings and occasional evenings, and therefore has some flexibility during weekdays.
We welcome applications from persons of all faiths who feel comfortable supporting the values and mission of our congregation. Please click here for more information about First Unitarian and Unitarian Universalism.
