About the Hopkins Center for Families and Children
The Hopkins Center for Families and Children, located at La Mesa Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque’s International District. The Center provides bilingual services for lower income families who lack access to affordable behavioral health care.
When the Samaritan Counseling Center closed down in 2017 after 30 years of serving Central New Mexico, a number of concerned community advocates banded together to find a way to continue the work of Samaritan’s St. Joseph’s Center for Children and Families in Albuquerque’s International District.
Centro Sávila recognized the service vacuum that would be left if the St. Joseph Center closed, so we intervened to prevent disruption in care for community members.
In November 2017, Centro Sávila renamed the program to The Hopkins Center in honor of the legacy of Dr. Paul Hopkins, a longtime Executive Director of Samaritan Counseling Center, who was instrumental in starting the St. Joseph’s Center 12 years ago, and his wife, LaDonna. The Hopkins Center reopened on November 6th in its same location at La Mesa Presbyterian Church.
We are very excited to be expanding our effort to ensure access to emotional and psychological support for everyone in Bernalillo County.
